Sikhism in Canada



Being the world’s fourth-largest religion preached and followed, Sikhism has continued attaining the growth of devotees in a large number of countries. Religion has its roots in an Indian state Punjab, which has most of the concentration of the Sikh population in the world, aside from all Indian states and the rest of the world. The community has proved its indulgence at every phase and has created a history of its own, especially when it is concerning dignity. 

Talking about the community’s relationship with the world, one can find Sikhs in almost every part of the world, however, for the most part, or we can say the second largest portion can be found in Canada after India. The communities have now world widespread in countries with different religions and cultures but have no forgotten their roots. They have constructed many Gurudwaras in almost all the locations admiring and considering the other religions and communities as well. 

Sikhism has not only respected the Canadian culture but has also has introduced its culture to the country. One can catch a sight of the Sikh festivals celebrated in Canada with so much love and affection, moreover, cooperation from the Canadians in cherishing these valuable moments is appreciable. Not only this religion is respected in Canada but the Canadian Sikhs with a valid permanent residence are also given the right to speech and participate in the government positions of the country. They are given equal rights concerning the profession and businesses as to Canadians. One can also spot the Canadian Sikh religious Institutions that are highly appreciated and respected in the country with no restrictions on the dress codes followed by the students showing a sign of liberalism within the country.
